The ‘Tail’ Begins: Tales From School series, Book 1
Imagine that you were kidnapped, experimented on, and turned into something new: A Human Electric Cave Catfish, the creation of a 21st Century mad scientist.
Would your birth family accept you, even though you lost your classification as a human? Or, would the infamous organization, the East Burro Church, persuade your family (along with the rest of the world) to toss you to the bottom of the ocean?
In her debut novel, the first in a series, Jae Byrd Wells explores the ethical and fanciful possibilities of genetic manipulation gone awry. Driving the drama is her villain, the nefarious “I.V. Scissor King,” who conducts successful experiments with DNA splicing and regenerative medicine.
Part science fiction, part fantasy, The ‘Tail’ Begins: Tales From School series, Book 1, continues to sell nationwide, Wells said recently, in part due to positive reviews and guest appearances since the book was first released last year. Written as a Young Adult (YA) novel, the first in a series, it continues to appeal to both YA and adult readers, she finds. Wells notes that she plans to add prequel graphic novels and offer movie options after she finishes her journey with the forthcoming sequel, “The ‘Tail’ Snags.”
Her readers are already hooked, apparently. St. Louis radio personality Nathan R. Shaw, said in his review of Book 1: “Wells reaches deep into her imagination and comes out with a story you never could have imagined, but with her research and scientific facts you now have to consider as a possibility. She mixes both to produce a novel that takes the unbelievable and turns it into the quite possible. ‘The “Tail” Begins’ then ends with you wanting more, more, more.”
Also, www.fantascize.com, an online community of Fantasy & Sci-Fi fans, readers, movie lovers, cosplayers, writers, and artists ended their thorough review with: “If you like YA stories with a spice of weird, you’ll probably enjoy The ‘Tail’ Begins.”
Readers may want to check with local libraries (public, college and high school) to see if they carry the soft Science Fiction distributed by Amazon and Barnes & Noble, published by iUniverse (1-800-AUTHORS or 288-4677), a national vendor.
The book is available in hard cover, soft cover, and Ebook.
