ALL CHARACTERS AND SCENERIOS ARE FICTITIOUS.

Fade In:

The Visit

Lucy leaves the college library after talking business with the librarian. In the hallway, she bumps into stranger who wasn’t paying attention. The distracted lady wore a long black comfortable skirt with a white button up blouse. Her black beaded earrings, necklace and bracelet shimmered with their distinctive cuts.

Diana

Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t see you there.

Lucy

Hey. No problem. Are you coming or going? Ha ha ha.

Diana

I’m going to class. What about you?

Lucy

I’m an author. Just heading out. I was visiting with the librarian.

Diana

Oh, yeah. Maybe I’ve heard of you.

Lucy

Here’s my bookmark. You better get to class and look me up later.

Diana

Oh, yeah. Ha ha. Thanks. Bye.

Lucy

Bye. Have a good one.

Lucy exits the hallway with the blue carpet and nods with a smile at all the hurrying students.

The goodbye

Lucy enters the lobby and cuts straight to the main office. Three women are busy at their desks with papers, but look up when Lucy enters.

Beth

So, how did it go?

Lucy

Great. Thanks.

Georgia

When are you going to do the reading?

Lucy

In a couple of months. Margo wants to make sure there is plenty of time to advertise.

Well, I better hit the road. Thanks again, Beth for the tip.

Lucy exits the office and the front door. Her head and hands busy poking through her bag.

Fade In:

the enemy

Lucy cannot find her special marker in her bag. With her head down, she overhears two students in front of her, sitting on a bench. They had no idea of her presence.

man

Is that them getting out of the Mercedes?

man 2

Yes. That’s them.

man

So what’s the plan again?

man 2

We’ve got embedded people in several of the rooms. We walk in after the boss.

man

Then what?

man 2

We do what the herders do. We do not let them exit any of the doors

and we keep them contained until the boss tells us different.

man

Then what? I mean when do we kill them.

man 2

Shit. We kill them when the boss says and not a minute sooner. Know your place.

Lucy sees the men and women exiting the Mercedes out of the corner of her eye. They didn’t see her. She hurried back to the front door and office. Her smile no longer genuine, but plastic.

Anticipated

Lucy enters the lobby and cuts straight to the main office. The three women are still busy at their desks with papers and their computers.

Beth

Did you forget something?

Lucy

Yes. But who cares. There are men coming. Bad men. You got to call for help.

Georgia

Already? What did they look like?

Lucy

They were dressed like Mormons or like the Methodists. They had suits on?

(Lucy was confused. Georgia starts to look through papers.)

Lucy

What are you doing. I said you need to call for help.

Georgia

I am. I’m looking for the phone number.

Beth

  1. call 911. How hard is that. Pick it up and dial.

Georgia

We knew this was coming. That’s why we hired embedded security.

But only one undercover could make it today.

The rest of them are to arrive tomorrow and through the rest of the week.

Beth

  1. call 911. What are we going to do? They can’t bring guns in here.
  2. They aren’t allowed. The police will protect us!

Georgia

No. there are not enough cops in town and the FBI wouldn’t provide help until after there is a viable threat. I can’t call the cops or use our radios. They are listening to our communication and they will use it against us. Everything has to be done the old fashioned way. By mouth.

Lucy

Where’s your security. I’ll get to him and tell him what’s going on.

Georgia

They are in room 107. Go back down toward the library. It’s in the room before it.

(Georgia and Lucy inch toward the door and watch the men enter the lobby while they talk.)

Lucy

How am I supposed to go warn the guy with them… right there.

Georgia

We have time.

Lucy

They are right there. What do you mean we have time?

Georgia

They are not supposed to start taking hostages until

they are all spread out in position.

(Lucy watches a woman in a floral dress and white head piece wink at the two men

who were seated on the bench.)

Lucy

Oh. My. God. That is what those guys were talking about. They have people embedded here.

Georgia

Get to the security person and tell them. We didn’t know they had students

here working with them. Walk into the room and announce

“The green clouds are rolling in.” He will come to you.

Beth

They have guns. They aren’t allowed in here.

Angie

I have 911 on the line.

Lucy

Make sure document when you called them. If you call them after they

told you not to, they could use it against you in court.

Beth

They have guns. Oh my god. They can’t bring them in here.

Lucy

I love you, Beth, but really? A sticker is going   to protect you? Cod. Really?

A sticker? One more law for them to ignore. I prefer a fair fight.

How come you didn’t hire more security?

Georgia

The board didn’t believe it was going anything bad was going to happen.

They said we can hope nothing bad happens.

So we went behind their backs. Are you going to be okay, Lucy?

Lucy

Yes. I’m good.

Beth

What do you mean, she’s good? We’re not good. We are all going to die. All guns kill.

Lucy

Georgia, I’m gone.

(Lucy exits the main office and keeps her plastic smile on her. She nods at the straggling dangerous men and women and walks down the hall.)

man

Where’s she going?

man 2

Who cares. She’s probably late for class.

Lucy exits the lobby and the more she leaves their view, the faster she walks.

A way out

Lucy finds the classroom and pokes her head in. She announces the code. The lady she met before greets her in the hallway.

Lucy

You’re the embedded security. You’re a woman!

Diana

          So are you!

Lucy

Uhg.

Diana

          Where are you going?

Lucy

I’m not prepared for this. I’m no good to you.

(Lucy prepares to exit the building. Diana steps in front of her.)

Diana

You’re armed, aren’t you? You got a permit, don’t you?

Lucy

How’d you know?

Diana

          I bumped into you. Remember?

Lucy

Yeah. So. Ohhhh. So what’s your plan?

Diana

We get as many people in this classroom as

we can and then we protect them.

Lucy

I have kids. I want to see them grow up. I want to get out of here.

We get everyone gathered in this room and it’s going to be another

Beslan school incident! No way! We have to get the students out of the building.

Diana

So then we take out the cap guard here and get everyone out this exit.

If our intelligence is right, then they are going to move everyone here, anyway.

Lucy

How do we know who are good and who are bad? Just wait for them to point a gun at us!?!

Diana

Pretty much.

Lucy

What if they have someone sniping them outside in the parking lot?

(A man enters the curve in the hallway. Diana shoots him down with a suppressed handgun.)

Diana

One down.

Lucy

Wow. Hey. How did you know he was bad? He didn’t have a gun out.

He wasn’t pointing one at you.

(Diana pulls him behind the curve in the building and picks up the

gun he had landed on. Lucy pulls out her gun.)

 Diana

Time to grow up Lucy. Focus.

Lucy

I don’t have enough bullets. I’m not a cop. I’m just a civilian.

I don’t have enough magazines. They don’t let civilians have the good magazines.

We can only have 7! How am I… and you for that matter …

going to have enough to take them on. There was at least 6… 7… 8…

possibly ten that I know of.

(Diana tosses Lucy a magazine for her gun. Lucy pulls out her own handgun.)

Lucy

      Niiiiiiice.

(Lucy and Diana take turns watching each other’s backs, directing scrambling students out the building. A couple of bad guys yell curse words and praise their god for their righteous duty at hand.)

Lucy

Why am I always in a bad place at a bad time?

DIana

Come on, Lucy! WWMD!! What would McClain do?

Lucy

He’d bitch about being in the wrong place at the wrong time and then say yippiekayay.

DIana

Yippiekayaye motherlover!

(Diana and Lucy pick up the bad guy’s guns and continually shoot

down the bad guys entering the hallway. Sometimes Lucy uses the snack machine

for cover, and then Diana. They tell the students to not cross to the parking

lot but some scared people do. It alerts the boss who sends all his men

toward the two heroes. A pregnant woman in a floral dress enters with her hands up.)

Pregnant woman

Don’t shoot. Don’t shoot. I’m innocent. I have a baby. I’m just trying to get out of here.

Diana

Come on, Lucy! Let her through. Get her out to safety.

Lucy

Right this way, ma’am. Go through that door and straight. Don’t go to the parking lot. Go to the highway.

Diana

Lucy. Lucy. I need you.

Lucy

I’m coming.

(Lucy turns her back. The pregnant woman pulls a gun out of her purse and shoots at Lucy.)

pregnant woman

Eat dirt, witch. Meet your maker. Next I’ll get your children.

(The bullet grazes Lucy’s hip and hits the wall next to Diana. Diana ducks.)

Lucy

I’m going after her. She’s not getting away.

Diana

Lucy. I’m using the radio. I’ll let them know you are out there……I’m in position. I’ve had civilian help. She’s wearing blue jeans and a nice shirt. Perps are not Methodist, but are wearing clothes like them. Civilian is in pursuit of a pregnant perp.

Lucy exits the door and follows woman toward parking lot.

Fade In:

The wrap

Lucy follows woman across parking lot. Two cop cars show up. Lucy tackles the pregnant woman. She escapes, kicking Lucy in the face. The cops jump out and tackle the woman before cuffing her. Lucy stands up, turns around and points both her gun and the pregnant woman’s gun in the pregnant woman’s face. Two more cops arrive.

Cop 3 & 4

Put the gun down.

cop 1 & 2

She’s not the perp. She’s helping. That’s Lucy!

(Lucy lets the empty chamber click in the pregnant woman’s face.)

Cop 1

Feel better? Lucy?

Lucy

I do… now. That bitch shot me. Told me to meet my children in shell.

(Cop 3 notices the blood on Lucy’s shirt and pants. He calls for EMS.)

Cop 1

Lucy, where is your help?

Lucy

She’s through that door. She still has guns after her. Go through the front door

and get behind them. Watch out for her. She is near the library. I

think we got all the students and staff out. I think the

only dead ones are the terrorists.

(Lucy sits down. Cop 1 stays with Lucy and

watches the pregnant perp sitting in back of squad car.

Cop 2, 3, and 4 go aide Diana. EMS arrives.)

Ems

Lucy, we’re going to lock you up in a scrub room and tie you to your computer. Finish book 3. Will you?

Ems 2

You need to be wrapped in bubble wrap. Your hubby is going to ground you for good!

Lucy

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.

EMS takes care of Lucy. The Perps are caught or killed. Everyone is safe except for the perps that is…
