Choices Based on Fear

Updated: Jun 9, 2024

There is was in black and white staring back at me. My fortune cookie stated, "Anything is possible with a willing heart." All the tension and war in my guts dissipated. In the last hour, I had been fighting the disrespect from a person overwhelming my guts. Beating my head against a brick wall is no way to live. When there is no communication, there is no relationship. There is a man who owes me money, but he will not give a dime up until he is done throwing his fit and someone makes him.

I used to think that I deserved every ounce of disrespect I received because that is what I chose to tolerate. My very wise friend gave me really good advice. He is having patience with me while I reprogram my brain to stand on my own two feet. I have been slowly stepping away from the idea that I have to make decisions upon making sure the other person is happy over my own comfort level. I made decisions based on fear and not logic. Fear is a powerful emotion that can cloud our judgment, leading us to make decisions that are not necessarily in our best interest. Whether it's the fear of failure, rejection, or the unknown, our minds are wired to prioritize safety and security. While fear can serve as a protective mechanism, it can also hold us back from reaching our full potential and living life to the fullest.

Have you ever found yourself hesitating to take a leap of faith, pursue a new opportunity, or make a significant life change due to fear? You're not alone. Many of us grapple with the internal battle between our ambitions and our apprehensions, often choosing the path of least resistance out of fear of the unknown. However, it is essential to recognize that making decisions solely based on fear can lead to missed opportunities, stagnation, and regret. By allowing fear to dictate our choices, we limit our growth, personal development, and overall fulfillment in life.

Instead of succumbing to fear, consider reframing your perspective and adopting a more mindful approach to decision-making. Reflect on the underlying reasons for your fears, acknowledge them without judgment, and challenge yourself to step outside your comfort zone. Embrace uncertainty as an opportunity for growth, learning, and self-discovery.

Remember, it is okay to feel fear – it is a natural human emotion. The key is not to let it control your actions and prevent you from pursuing your dreams and aspirations. Choices based on fear can actually increase the problem you are trying to avoid. By confronting your fears head-on, you can break free from the shackles of insecurity and uncertainty, empowering yourself to make bold, courageous choices that align with your values and aspirations.
